BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Employees Give in a Major Way
Jan. 22, 2020
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina employees donate generously to causes they care about and volunteer thousands of hours to support communities in need. In 2019, employees gave approximately $3 million in charitable donations and logged nearly 20,000 volunteer hours, helping to create a positive impact on the well-being of the people of South Carolina.
BlueCross employee fundraising contributed to the mission of the United Way of the Midlands as well as other organizations including the American Heart Association, Transitions Homeless Center, Harvest Hope Food Bank, the American Red Cross, Senior Resources, Epworth Children’s Home and Families Helping Families.
Employees see the value of giving their time to help those who need it most. During the Fearless Day of Service, a day when employees throughout BlueCross volunteer at charitable organizations, more than 20 nonprofits across the state benefited from the service of employees. With activities like painting health centers, packing food boxes, cleaning roadways, installing smoke alarms and lending a hand at events, volunteer service hours last year were valued at nearly $500,000.
“Employees have a strong desire to support our community,” said Elizabeth Nkuo, director of community relations for BlueCross. “The needs across South Carolina are great, and one of the ways we can help is by connecting our employees to opportunities that address tough issues in order to help advance our communities toward progress.”
The standard of service and commitment to community will continue at BlueCross as employees gear up for a new year of affecting the economic and social success of South Carolinians. Read our blog to find out more about what we’re doing in the community.
