HEDIS Measure: Blood Pressure Readings
May 20, 2021
To be compliant with HEDIS® measures as it relates to blood pressure readings, it is important that specific systolic and diastolic readings are documented in the medical records for submission. In the past year, most physicians provided telehealth visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, members reported a range for their blood pressure (e.g., “120-130 over 70-80”). However, reporting a range will not count for compliance with HEDIS.
To ensure that accurate readings are included in the medical records, ask the member to take their blood pressure using a device during the telehealth visit. If this option is not available, be sure to document the most recent blood pressure reading from the member’s written log.
