BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has partnered with Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to provide in-network services for patients with burn injuries. In the past, providers referred patients to other out-of-state and out-of-network providers to receive this care. This caused higher out-of-pocket expenses for the patient. Now, both children and adults can receive the necessary care at MUSC’s campus in Charleston, South Carolina.

MUSC believes in minimally invasive and cost-effective care that is centered around the patient. All care, whether inpatient, outpatient, surgical, or non-operative is medically necessary to:

• Help decrease pain.
• Expedite healing.
• Prevent infection.
• Restore a functional outcome.

As always, BlueCross encourages its providers to refer patients to other in-network facilities or health care professionals to help avoid any surprise billing. Therefore, if you encounter patients with severe burn injuries, please refer them to MUSC’s Charleston campus for care, when feasible.
